This policy explains AYE Market's document-based identity verification — the deeper trust layer behind the Verified badge, distinct from the basic account-level checks described in our Account Verification Policy. Requesting the Verified badge is entirely optional, but it is the strongest trust signal available on the platform.
1. Purpose
Identity verification lets other users trust that the person behind a listing, a hire, or a CV is who they say they are. It is optional for ordinary buying and selling, but it unlocks trust signals that meaningfully help sellers and employers on the platform.
2. Accepted documents
We accept any one of the following government or officially issued documents:

3. How to submit
Upload a clear photo or scan of your chosen document directly in the app, in the account verification section of your profile. There is no email or third-party form involved — everything is submitted and tracked inside the app.
4. What our review checks
Every submission is reviewed by a member of our verification team, not by an automated system. Reviewers check that:
- The document is legible — all text and the photo are clear enough to read.
- The name on the document reasonably matches the name on your AYE Market profile.
- The document is not visibly expired.
- The document does not show obvious signs of tampering or forgery.
5. Review timeframe
Because a real person reviews every submission, timing can vary with volume. We review submissions as promptly as possible and do not intentionally delay a genuine request. You can check your status in the app at any time.
6. What the Verified badge unlocks
- Buyer trust — a visible badge on your profile and listings that tells other users your identity has been checked against a real document.
- Verified employer access — only verified employers can view candidates' CVs submitted through the Jobs Marketplace, whether through a direct application or a Jobs Wanted ad. Verifying as a business is what unlocks this.
7. Confidentiality & storage
Your submitted document is treated as highly sensitive information:
- It is visible only to our verification team — never to other users, buyers, sellers, or employers, under any circumstance.
- It is stored in Firebase Cloud Storage behind server-side security rules that restrict access exclusively to authorized verification reviewers.
- It is used solely to confirm your identity for the badge — never shared with any third party, and never used for any purpose beyond this review.

8. Rejection & resubmission
If your submission is rejected — for example, the image is blurry, the name doesn't match, or the document appears expired — you'll be told the reason where possible, and you're free to resubmit with a corrected document or a clearer photo at any time, with no limit on attempts made in good faith.
9. Revocation of verified status
We may remove a Verified badge if we later learn a document was fraudulent, the account's ownership has meaningfully changed, or the verification was otherwise obtained improperly. Removal follows the same review-based approach as granting the badge — it is not automatic or arbitrary.

This Identity Verification Policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our verification process evolves, including if the list of accepted documents changes. Material changes are reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
