This Listing Policy sets the standard every listing on AYE Market must meet โ items, services, and job postings alike โ and explains how listings are reviewed and moderated. It works alongside our Seller Policy and Community Guidelines.
1. What makes a listing valid
Every listing must have:
- A category that genuinely matches what's being offered โ one of the 22 AYE Market categories, or Lost & Found for non-commercial recovery posts.
- An accurate title and description that reflect the real item, service, or job.
- An honest price (or clearly marked "Negotiable"/"Free"), with no hidden mandatory add-ons.
- A truthful location, set via device GPS or Tigray's region โ zone โ wereda โ tabiya hierarchy, matching where the item, service, or job genuinely is.
- At least one real photo of the actual item or premises (up to 8 photos supported, reorderable by drag-and-drop) โ Jobs and Services listings may substitute a clear, honest description where a photo doesn't apply.
2. Photo requirements
- Photos must show the actual item you're offering, in its actual current condition, taken by you or with the owner's permission.
- No stock photography, manufacturer catalog images presented as your own unit, images scraped from other listings or websites, or images of a different item than the one for sale.
- No stolen or misappropriated images โ using a photo you don't have rights to is both a Listing Policy violation and a potential intellectual-property violation under our Terms of Service.
- Use the reorder tool to put your clearest, most representative photo first โ the cover photo is what buyers see in feeds and search.
- Photos may not contain contact information, watermarked competitor branding, or content that violates the Community Guidelines (e.g., adult content, weapons).
3. Location accuracy
Set your listing's location to where the item, service, or job genuinely is, using device GPS or by selecting the correct region, zone, wereda, and tabiya. Accurate location is what makes local search and distance sorting useful for buyers near you โ listing a false location to appear in searches you don't genuinely serve is a misleading-listing violation.
4. Prohibited listing practices
- Misleading pricing โ a headline price that isn't genuinely available, undisclosed mandatory fees, or bait pricing meant to generate contacts for a different, pricier item.
- Duplicate listings โ posting the identical item more than once, or cross-posting one item into multiple categories.
- Wrong-category posting โ placing a listing in a category it doesn't belong to, to reach a different audience or dodge category-specific rules.
- Contact-info stuffing โ putting phone numbers, WhatsApp links, email addresses, or social handles in the title or description to pull buyers into off-platform contact before they've even opened chat.
- Prohibited items or services โ anything barred under the Community Guidelines, in any category.
- Fake job postings โ vacancies that don't genuinely exist, pay-to-apply schemes, or postings soliciting child labour.
5. Post-moderation review model
AYE Market uses post-moderation: when you publish a listing, it goes live immediately and is visible to other users right away โ it is not held for pre-approval before it appears. Every published listing remains subject to reactive review: it can be reported by any user, and administrators can review, approve, reject, hide, or feature any listing at any time through the Listing Moderation tools in the Admin Dashboard. Publishing instantly is a convenience, not a guarantee that a listing complies with this policy โ non-compliant listings can be removed after the fact.
6. Listing lifecycle
From My Listings, a seller can move a listing through these states at any time:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Auto-saved, not public, editable until you're ready to publish |
| Published | Live and visible in feeds, search, and categories |
| Edited | Live listing updated with new details, price, or photos |
| Paused | Temporarily hidden from feeds without deleting it |
| Sold | Marked complete; stays visible as Sold but no longer solicits offers |
| Duplicated | Used as a template to quickly create a listing for a different item |
| Archived | Removed from active feeds, kept in your history |
| Deleted | Permanently removed |
7. Removal & appeal
A listing can be removed by an administrator following a report or a routine review, if it violates this policy or the Community Guidelines. When a listing is removed for a policy violation, the seller is notified of the removal. If you believe your listing was removed in error, contact us or see our Appeals Process to request a review.
8. Enforcement
A single minor issue (miscategorized item, incomplete photos) typically results in the listing being corrected or removed with guidance to the seller. Deliberate or repeated violations โ misleading pricing, duplicate spam, prohibited items, contact-info stuffing to evade chat โ escalate through a warning, then account-level suspension for the seller responsible. See the enforcement ladder in our Community Guidelines.
9. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and forms part of the agreement described in our Terms of Service.
