Reporting & Moderation

How to flag a problem on AYE Market, and exactly what happens after you do.

Last updated: July 17, 2026 ยท Version 1.0

This Reporting & Moderation Policy explains how reports work on AYE Market and how our human moderators handle them. It works alongside our Community Guidelines, which set out what's actually prohibited.

1. What you can report

You can report two things from anywhere they appear in the app: a listing (from its detail page) or a seller profile (from their profile page). Reporting either opens the same report form, so you're never forced to pick the wrong target just to flag a problem user versus a problem post.

2. The eight report reasons

Every report requires choosing one reason, which routes it to moderators with the right context immediately:

  1. Scam / Fraud โ€” deceptive pricing, fake payment requests, advance-fee schemes.
  2. Fake Listings โ€” items that don't exist, photos that don't match reality, or bait listings.
  3. Spam โ€” duplicate or mass-posted content.
  4. Harassment โ€” threats, abuse, or unwanted persistent contact.
  5. Offensive Content โ€” hate speech, graphic content, or other content violating the Community Guidelines.
  6. Selling Prohibited Items โ€” weapons, drugs, counterfeit goods, or anything else barred from the platform.
  7. Impersonation โ€” pretending to be another person, business, or brand.
  8. Other โ€” anything not covered above; a free-text description is required so moderators understand the issue.

3. Duplicate-report prevention

If you've already reported a specific listing or profile, the app recognizes this and prevents you from submitting a second identical report โ€” your original report stands and doesn't need repeating to "boost" its priority. This keeps the moderation queue focused on distinct issues rather than repeat submissions from the same reporter.

4. How admin moderation works

Reports land in the Listing Moderation screen of our Admin Dashboard, where a human moderator reviews the reported listing or profile against the Community Guidelines. From there, a moderator can approve content as compliant, reject or hide it if it violates policy, or feature a listing that's a strong, compliant example within its category. We do not auto-remove content purely based on report volume โ€” every action follows a human review.

5. Response-time expectations

We don't promise a fixed response-time SLA, because report volume and severity vary. Reports are reviewed by a human moderator promptly, with reports suggesting active harm (fraud in progress, harassment, content endangering minors) prioritized ahead of lower-severity reports like miscategorization.

6. What happens after a report

To protect reporter privacy and avoid retaliation, we do not notify you of the specific outcome of a report you submitted โ€” you won't get a message saying "the listing you reported was removed" or "we found no violation." Action is still taken where warranted: listings are removed, warnings are issued, and accounts are suspended based on the review, even though the reporter isn't individually updated on the result. If the content itself was affecting you directly (e.g., harassment in your own chat), you'll see the effect directly, such as the other party no longer being able to message you.

7. Appeals

If your own listing or account was actioned and you believe it was a mistake, you can request a review โ€” see our Appeals Process. A human moderator, distinct from routine review, reconsiders the decision and responds to you directly.

8. False or malicious reports

Reporting in bad faith is itself a violation. Submitting false reports to harass a legitimate seller, silence a competitor, or retaliate after a failed negotiation is treated as harassment under our Community Guidelines and can result in enforcement against the reporter's own account.

9. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and forms part of the agreement described in our Terms of Service.
